The absorbent mind at work
From birth to six, children absorb language, movement and behavior simply from their surroundings. Dr. Maria Montessori called this the absorbent mind. In the first few years of life, more than a million new neural connections form every second (Harvard Center on the Developing Child).
That is why our classroom is calm, ordered and full of real, natural materials, and why screens are never a babysitter here. Toddlers spend their day with things they can touch, carry, pour and put back, and with adults who talk with them, not at them.
With a 7:1 child–teacher ratio, guides have time to notice each child: who is ready for a new challenge, who needs a quiet moment, and who just learned to zip a coat.
